My wife and I, still slightly jet-lagged, are buzzing about our experience at the world's largest conference of Traditional Chinese
Medicine, the TCM Kongress in Rothenburg, Germany. Having been invited by the TCM Social Forum, which acts to support the humanitarian TCM movement, we presented on 10
different clinics from around the world, many of which are partners of our Global Outreach Program. The Forum serves as a platform to connect many people
and organizations dedicated to supporting the presence of low cost, natural health care to those around the world who so badly need it.
The Kongress itself was host to 1200 delegates from 30 countries. Situated in a riverside castle and an idyllic timber and stone
reception hall, the conference venue and the town of Rothenburg could not have been more welcoming to the throngs of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners who gathered there. The
speakers, many of whom are internationally-recognized authors and presenters, provided inspiration through their experiences, observations and research. Our only
complaint was that with so many great lectures and events, it was impossible to take it all in. I suppose we will just have to return next year.
Now back in Victoria we find our students well into the Summer semester. New students, both
Canadian and international, are getting their first taste of how exciting the field of complementary and integrative medicine really is. We welcome them to the college,
and welcome back all of our returning students.
If you would like to take part in some of the great activities at Pacific Rim College, be it as a student, patient, or
simply a visitor, please come and see us.

Moxibustion in the Treatment of Tuberculosis Moxafrica is a charitable organization set up in 2008 in the UK to investigate the use of moxibustion therapy for the treatment of tuberculosis. Moxa is a herbal preparation made from the leaves of the mugwort plant (Artemisia spp.). The brief smouldering of tiny pieces of moxa against the skin is called direct moxibustion and has been used in Oriental Medicine for centuries, both in conjunction with acupuncture treatment and on its own. Therapeutically it is known to have positive effects on blood circulation and to enhance th e immune system. We are pleased to offer you a first hand account on the beginning of Moxafrica and how a small vision now has the potential to change lives, perhaps millions of them. Activist Stands Up against Big Oil
Close friend of PRC and activist Norm Hann recently completed a stand up paddleboard expedition along the coast of British Columbia to bring awareness to the
environmental threat of Enbridge's proposed oil pipeline and tanker traffic to the Great Bear Rainforest that serves as ancient food harvesting lands of the First
Nations people and a sacred wildlife refuge. In light of the most recent oil company folly in the Gulf of Mexico and the scars that still remain from the Exxon Valdez
spill, it is painfully obvious that Big Oil can rarely exist without eventually causing catastrophic environmental damage. The Great Bear Rainforest stretches from
Vancouver Island to Southeast Alaska and is one of the largest unspoiled tracts of temperate rainforest in the world. The proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway project
would transport oil from the Alberta tar-sands to the BC coast via a 1200-kilometer pipeline. The oil would then be transported by super tankers through the coastal waters of the Great Bear Rainforest. The learn more about this tragic proposal and Norm Hann's heroic quest to stop it, please click here. Search 'standup4greatbear' at www.youtube.com to see video coverage of the expedition.
Book of the Month Five Element Constitutional
Acupuncture by Hicks, Hicks and Mole is an exciting new textbook that gives a clear, detailed, and accessible presentation of the main features of constitutional
five element acupuncture treatment. It covers the context and history of this form of acupuncture, as well as the relevant Chinese medicine theory. After examining the
elements themselves, and the functions of the Organs, the book explores the basis of diagnosis in five element acupuncture, possible blocks to treatment, and the
treatment itself. It puts this style of treatment into the context of other styles of acupuncture treatment - especially Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as it is
used in the West today. Stop by the PRC Bookstore to get your copy today for only $90.95.
