At PRC seasons are mapped not by the weather but instead by the semester. Fall has thus arrived, and with it we welcome new students from around the world and the excitement of new and returning programs.

With courses and programs starting throughout September, registration deadlines for unprecedented learning opportunities are rapidly approaching. Please read our updates below to ensure that you are not missing out.

Registration is also now open for some highly anticipated Winter programs including the Japanese Acupuncture Certificate Program and the Traditional Thai Massage Certificate Program. Enrolment is very limited for both of these, as well as for the Spring 2010 Community Herbalist Program.

As always, thanks for your support. Enjoy the newsletter!

Community Herbalist Program begins

The Community Herbalist Program returns to PRC on September 10. This unique 3-month program introduces students to the incredible world of plants and their medicinal uses according to various cultures. Graduates of this program can use knowledge and experience gained to establish a community-based herbal clinic to assist family and friends, work in the health and wellness retail sector, grow and maintain herbal gardens, create herbal preparations or matriculate into the Diploma of Phytotherapy program at PRC. For more information and to register, please click here.

Traditional Thai Massage program starts in January

Traditional Thai Massage is a 4-month certificate program that introduces students to the philosophies, therapeutic principles and techniques of Thai Massage. Thai Massage forms the "energy medicine" component of the unique healing system of Traditional Thai Medicine - a holistic approach to health that addresses the body (through diet and herbs), psychospirituality (through practices such as meditation) and the flow and balance of vital energy in the energetic systems. During a Thai massage, the practitioner guides the recipient into various postures linked together in a flowing series, applying acupressure with hands and feet, arms and legs. Over the years, Thai Medicine and Massage have adopted and incorporated influences from Indian Ayurveda and yoga practices, as well as Chinese healing arts. Japanese Acupuncture Certificate Program returns

Canada's only Japanese Acupuncture Certificate Program returns to PRC in January 2010. This 100-hour modular program covers a broad range of treatment techniques from Japan, including abdominal (hara) palpation and diagnosis, subtle needling techniques, moxibustion, use of intradermals, press tacks and press spheres, cupping and bloodletting techniques, Sotai, and non-needling pediatric (Shonishin) techniques. Registration spaces are very limited so don't delay in enrolling in a program that graduates are calling their best educational experience ever. Modules 1, 2 and 3 can be taken independently. Students who complete all 5 modules within 24 months graduate with a certificate in Japanese Acupuncture, endorsed by the Japanese Acupuncture Institute of Seattle.

Last chance for Lonny Jarrett

PRC is pleased to welcome back renowned Five Elements expert Lonny Jarrett for the workshop "Five Elements Diagnosis" on September 19-20. On the first day Lonny will review the significance of the intake, covering everything that can be told from hearing a patient's voice to watching the patient leave the office for the first time. The intake will be examined from an integrated five-elements and eight-principles perspective. Students will be taught how to discern a patient's core motivation for acting and the degree to which he or she is aware of that motivation.

On the second day Lonny will perform 2 comprehensive intakes on patients and dedicate a significant amount of time to diagnosis and treatment planning, including comprehensive acupuncture and herbal prescriptions. The inner nature of the acupuncture points and formulas will be discussed in the context of an integrated diagnosis. Emphasis will be placed on the discernment of constitutional type through the assessment of colour, sound, odour and emotion, and the patient's eight-principles physiology. Lonny will also perform and present a detailed analysis of the pulse. For more information and to register, please click here.
