Considering the recent growth of PRC, both from an enrolment perspective and program offerings, it comes as no surprise that this is perhaps our longest newsletter yet.

As we pave the way for the upcoming launch of 2 new programs - the Diploma of Eastern Therapies and Bodywork and Canada's first college-level program in Yogatherapy - and the return of many more, our enrolment is reaching higher than ever before. In September we look forward to welcoming an impressive group of new instructors and professors, as well as new and returning students from around the globe. To date we have students from 6 of 7 continents and more than 15 countries.

Events not to miss in August include 2 free workshops in Thai Massage and Yogatherapy, a 2-day DongBang needle sale and rapidly approaching registration deadlines for Fall programs, courses and continuing education opportunities.

In September we urge you not to miss out on the long-awaited return of both Lonny S. Jarrett and Dr. Michael Greenwood, treatment opportunities in our Student Clinic and receipt of our largest shipments yet of books and acupuncture supplies.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback regarding our newsletters, and the college as a whole. Your support has always been and will continue to be invaluable!

Enjoy the newsletter!

Lonny Jarrett returns to PRC

PRC is pleased to welcome back renowned Five Elements expert Lonny Jarrett for the workshop "Five Elements Diagnosis" on September 19-20. On the first day Lonny will review the significance of the intake, covering everything that can be told from hearing a patient's voice to watching the patient leave the office for the first time. The intake will be examined from an integrated five-elements and eight-principles perspective. Students will be taught how to discern a patient's core motivation for acting and the degree to which he or she is aware of that motivation.

On the second day Lonny will perform two comprehensive intakes on patients and dedicate a significant amount of time to diagnosis and treatment planning, including comprehensive acupuncture and herbal prescriptions. The inner nature of the acupuncture points and formulas will be discussed in the context of an integrated diagnosis. Emphasis will be placed on the discernment of constitutional type through the assessment of color, sound, odour and emotion, and the patient's eight-principles physiology. Lonny will also perform and present a detailed analysis of the pulse. For more information and to register, please click here.

For more information on Lonny, visit his online community at www.nourishingdestiny.com.

Two new Fall Programs launched

This September brings the start of 2 new programs at PRC. The Diploma of Eastern Therapies and Bodywork is a 2-year program that integrates the philosophies, principles and healing techniques of Ayurvedic Marmatherapy, Traditional Thai Massage and Yogatherapy, all 3 of which can also be taken as independent certificate programs at PRC. Eastern Therapeutic practitioners recognize 3 layers of being: physical, energetic and spiritual. The physical is addressed through diet and herbs, as well as touch, pressure, movement and the manipulation of tissues, organs, joints and various other systems of the body. The energetic is addressed through working with the various energy systems, pathways and elements. The spiritual is addressed through awareness, resonance, intent, visualization, meditation and ritual.

The Foundations of Yogatherapy Certificate Program is a 1-semester (252-hour) program that explores the art and science of Yoga as a therapeutic practice. Yoga has a depth of practice that extends much further than physical postures, and is not limited to those who are flexible or mobile. The practices of breath, cultivating focus and awareness through meditation and lifestyle, and the application of the eastern understandings of health, well-being and disease all work together to create a model of Yoga that is both therapeutic as well as enriching.

Nikki Manzie named a Program Director at PRC

PRC is pleased to introduce Nikki Manzie, Director of the new Eastern Therapies and Bodywork programs. Nikki has a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Integrated Sciences, is a Certified Yoga Teacher, an Ayurvedic Medical practitioner and educator, and is trained as a Traditional Thai Massage teacher and practitioner. A meditation practitioner since 17 years of age, in 1998 Nikki founded Yanumoja Yoga, a practice of self-exploration through movement, breath, meditation and reflection on seasonal themes. Since then she has provided professional training for yoga teachers and, in more recent years, has expanded her teaching to include traditional Thai massage and Ayurvedic Marmatherapy (acupoints in the Indian tradition).

Book of the Month

Nourishing DestinyIn anticipation of the return of Lonny Jarrett, PRC Bookstore is pleased to announce Nourishing Destiny as the book of the month. Lonny Jarrett has revived the spirit of Chinese Medicine that is so often lacking in contemporary studies of this cultivation art. Integrating philosophy, cosmology, and mythology back into the evolution of Chinese medicine, Lonny has offered an initiation to practitioners, students, and clients alike to expand their own unfolding to this intricate art of healing. Nourishing Destiny offers the profundity of Chinese medical concepts, elemental archetypes, acupuncture points, and more importantly, the healing process. Lastly, the text inspires us to reawaken our own inner selves to reconnect with the roots of Chinese medicine, which in itself is an act of healing! Lonny Jarrett discusses Healing

Words by Lonny Jarrett: Generally, when people think of the word "cure", they take it to imply that a specific condition is treated to the point it no longer exists. In truth this is rarely, if ever, the case. The manifestation of any given symptom indicates by its presence an a priori constitutional weakness that allowed it to be expressed. In other words, the patient had either a genetic and/or karmic predisposition that allowed this symptom to become manifest. The inner tradition focuses on constitutional issues which comprise that aspect of self that can never fundamentally be changed because it comprises one's inborn nature. Medicine can help compensate for our constitutional weaknesses but cannot ultimately change what has been present from conception. Hence the inner tradition does not focus on achieving a cure as an end point of treatment. Rather, the focus is placed on guiding the patient through the process of healing. A condition is considered to be healed when it no longer limits a patient's self-expression or hinders quality of life. more>>

Flying Needle Project

After 2 years of preparation, labouring, and effort, PRC Japanese Acupuncture alumni Gidon Levenbach is proud to announce the opening of the Flying Needle Project clinic in Cape Town, South Africa. At the end of July the primary practitioners of the clinic, Gidon and Andre Sorger, provided treatments to the clinic's first patients. The Flying Needle Project clinic is open 3 days a week, for 5 hours each day. Located in Central Cape Town at the Scalabrini Centre, the clinic offers acupuncture, energy work and a weekly qi gong class. The Scalabrini Centre is a non-profit organization focused on the rights and well-being of refugees and migrants in South Africa. Flying Needle Project is working with Scalabrini to create the Scalabrini Health Project, which can be found at www.scalabrini.org.za. The clinic gives priority to patients with HIV, but will see any person, foreign or from South Africa. Congratulations to Gidon!
