Clinic Descriptions

Herbal (Phytotherapy) Clinic
Patients undergo a thorough assessment and are given several therapeutic options in the form of herbal remedies. Remedies may include teas, tinctures, capsules, creams and more. Initial sessions generally take 90 minutes. The consultation is free and patients only need to cover the cost of herbal remedies.

Acupuncture Clinic (and TCM Herbs)
Following a thorough health assessment using the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, patients are treated primarily with acupuncture and may also receive other therapeutic approaches including acupressure, TCM herbal remedies, and lifestyle and nutritional guidance. Initial treatments are 90 minutes. All sessions cost $25. Optional herbal remedies are at an additional cost.

Chinese Medicine Clinic
Chinese Medicine Clinics are combined with Acupuncture Clinics. When patients book, they can choose to either receive an Acupuncture treatment as above, a Herbal consultation, or both. If receiving Acupuncture, the cost is $25 per session. Herbal consultations are free and patients only need to cover the cost of custom-made herbal remedies.

Community Acupuncture Clinic
Community Acupuncture Clinic is an acupuncture-based clinic with a group of student practitioners treating patients in a large open room. Patients receive treatments either while seated or lying down. The primary therapeutic approach used is acupuncture, but patients may also receive therapies such as acupressure, sound healing, and lifestyle and nutritional guidance. Treatments in Community Clinic are by donation and generally last for 60-90 minutes.

Eastern Therapies and Bodywork Clinic
Eastern Therapies and Bodywork is a blending of 3 disciplines: Yogatherapy, Traditional Thai Massage, and Ayurvedic Marmatherapy. Clients can expect a mixture of hands-on bodywork, as well as dialogue, movement, breathwork and meditative presence. Often clients will be offered home-based exercises to use between sessions to help maintain and increase their health and well-being. Clients are asked to bring or wear clothes they can move in, and to avoid zippers and buttons when possible. Depending on the modalities for treatment, clients will either be fully clothed, or in the case of oil-massage, will be partially unclothed and draped. The setting is a community clinic with curtains between the stations. There will be as many as 10 clients, each with their own therapist, and supervisors present in the room.

Services

Herbal Consultations
Herbal Medicine is the use of plant remedies in the treatment of disease. It is the oldest form of medicine known. Our ancestors, mostly by trial and error, found the most effective local plants to heal their illnesses. Now, with the advancement of science enabling us to identify the chemical constituents within these plants, we can better understand their healing powers. Although herbal medicine is the most widely practice form of medicine in the world, with usage spanning more than 80% of the world's population, it is classified as an alternative or complementary discipline in the majority of the developed world.

Acupuncture
The art and science of acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine in the world, dating back more than five thousand years. Although its recorded use has been predominantly limited to Asian countries, during the last century acupuncture has gained enormous acceptance in every corner of the globe. Through the insertion of extremely fine needles into the skin, acupuncture gently encourages the restoration of health and well-being. Not only is acupuncture virtually painless, it is also relaxing, enjoyable, safe, and effective in treating practically every ailment.

Traditional Thai Massage

Thai Massage is a component of Traditional Thai Medicine, a holistic approach to health that addresses the body (through diet and herbs), psycho-spirituality (through practices such as meditation) and the flow and balance of vital energy in the energetic systems. During a Thai massage, the practitioner guides the recipient into various postures linked together in a flowing series, applying acupressure with hands, feet, arms and legs. Three levels are addressed simultaneously - the physical body (joints, muscles, organs, etc.), the flow of subtle energy through pathways called Sen (meridians) and the realm of heart consciousness (spirit).

Yogatherapy
Yogatherapy is the application of the techniques and philosophy of yoga to support the healing and well-being of clients on all levels.

Ayurvedic Marmatherapy
Ayurvedic Marmatherapy works with vital points (Marmas) in the body where there is a junction of tissues, vessels, systems and subtle yet potent life-energies. Marmas are stimulated with acupressure, oil massage and energy work to affect a healing response in their associated organs, tissues and energy channels.

Acupressure (not offered as primary therapy)
Acupressure is an umbrella term used for therapeutic massage techniques that employ basic philosophies of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Most treatments in our Acupuncture-based clinics involve some degree of Acupressure techniques.

Sound Healing (not offered as primary therapy)
Sound Healing involves the use of tuning forks to gently stimulate acupuncture points and trigger points throughout the body. Tuning Forks are often used with children and individuals with an aversion to needles.

Lifestyle and Nutritional Guidance (not offered as primary therapy)
Each treatment in our Student Clinic involves the delivery of some wellness guidance in order to help patients achieve more optimal healing results.
