Pacific Rim College, Complementary & Integrative Medicine

Pacific Rim College is a government (PCTIA) accredited academic institution of complementary and integrative medicine located on Vancouver Island in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia. The college was founded to provide world-class education, modern research opportunities and premier clinical services in a variety of medical modalities.

Mission of Pacific Rim College

The mission of Pacific Rim College is to provide education, services and research opportunities in Complementary and Integrative Medicine, amalgamating indigenous and diverse systems of healing with contemporary scientific beliefs and technology.

Vision

Pacific Rim College will be a world-leading academic institution in the field of Complementary and Integrative Medicine. The founders of Pacific Rim College were fueled by a vision of an integrated system of healing in which students study multiple healing and medical modalities at one academic institution.

Founding Philosophy

Pacific Rim College was founded in an effort to integrate medicines of the world, thereby preserving indigenous practices and increasing the global availability of sustainable health care. More than fifty percent of people from industrialized countries use some form of complementary and alternative therapy, and in impoverished regions, this proportion would likely be even greater if therapies were available. PRC is training practitioners to meet this growing demand and to help supply valuable medical skills and knowledge around the globe.

Recognitions and Accreditations

PRC is a an Accredited academic institution with the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA) of British Columbia. Canadian students are eligible to apply for Canada Government Student Loans. Academic programs within PRC are recognized by various governing bodies and associations, including the CTCMA for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine programs and the American Herbalist Guild for the Diploma of Phytotherapy. Please visit Accreditation and Recognition for more information.

Commitment to the Environment

Pacific Rim College is committed to preserving the environment and natural and sustainable medicinal practices. Our campus has recycling receptacles, composting bins, low energy lighting, and is Bullfrog Powered. Bullfrog Power is Canada's 100% green energy provider. Bullfrog's green electricity comes exclusively from wind and hydro facilities that have been certified as low impact by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program - instead of from polluting sources like coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear. A clean, renewable alternative to fossil-fuel based natural gas, Bullfrog's green natural gas is produced in Canada from biogas facilities that have met strict environmental criteria as defined by ICF International.

President's Message

Todd HowardHealth care in the 21st century, the age of the World Wide Web and the Green Revolution, is as diverse around the globe as the people who rely on it. Whether you are a nursing mother in Sweden, an executive in New York City, or a taxi driver in Mumbai, what is now becoming irrefutably clear is that health is only partially based on economic status. The regions and countries where people are thriving seem to be those that have not lost connections to traditional foods, customs, and medicine and have made great strides toward accepting holistic healing beliefs and practices.

With nearly 7 billion people on the planet today, we must realize that we no longer need to change our destructive habits for the survival of future generations, but we must do so for the survival of current generations. The pollution resulting from factory farms, toxic dumping and unprecedented pharmaceutical consumption to name only a few, is reaching critical mass. There may no longer be a clean drop of water on earth, but through the employment of sustainable movements such as organic farming practices, land conservation and the integration of modern day medicine with traditional and indigenous practices, we can start to set things right.

Pacific Rim College is not only a participant in the movement toward a more sustainable world, but is also a pioneer. By integrating modern and traditional medical practices, we are endeavouring to ensure that ancient knowledge will not be lost, and that medical practices will be employed based not on power and corruption, but rather on conscientious common sense on a global scale and need.

If you want to take part in the sustainable medical movement to help secure a healthier future, consider joining Pacific Rim College.

Sincerely,

Todd N Howard
